Bryant Preferred 96 single-stage. VS / 25-speed blower and InteliSense like 926T, but one gas solenoid and one pressure switch. Two-digit IFC. A 32 on this board is not ‘low fire’ — there is no high fire.

Not 926T (two-stage, dual PS, W2). Not 916S Legacy (fixed/18-speed Comfort, no InteliSense VS story). Not 987M / 986T Evolution ABCD.

This board

Preferred two-digit IFC · single-stage

  • Same 11–14, 21–24, 31, 33, 34, 41, 45 family as other Bryant/Carrier two-digit boards.
  • One draft switch. 31 is that switch. Door-card 32, if printed, is still the only PS — not a 926T low-fire path.
  • No W2 furnace terminal that means high fire. A leftover W2 is unused or an AC stage.

Sequence

  1. W. Inducer → single PS must close (31 if not) → HSI → valve → flame (34) → VS blower.
  2. No W2 path. There is no high-fire prove and no second solenoid.

Faults on this IFC

  • 13 / 33

    Limit / lockout

    Airflow or rollout. 13 is the hardened 33.

    • VS heat CFM / setup — not a 9-speed tap.
    • Filter, coil, return. Rollout is manual reset.

    Ignition

    No flame prove. 14 is the hardened 34.

Workflows

31 on a 926S

Inducer runs, no ignition.

  1. This is single-stage. One PS. Do not pull a 926T dual-hose card.
  2. Trap and PVC first — 96% Preferred still drowns a collector.
  3. Then inducer 120 VAC and the only hose.
  4. If someone landed W2 from an old 926T job, ignore it for furnace staging.

Test points

Pressure switch
One NO switch. Closed only after inducer is up.
Manifold
Single-stage plate value — no low/high pair.

Gotchas

  • Techs treat 926S like 926T and start looking for high-fire. There is none.
  • 916S is the Legacy Comfort cousin — similar 31, different blower setup.
